Most people that know me know that yellow is my favorite color, so you can imagine my joy when we came over a hill and saw this field of yellow. Don't know what the crop is, but it is beautiful. If you know leave a comment. I still think all crops should have a sign by the side of the road with the name of crop that is growing there.
In the background you will notice buildings, this is the Martinsdale Colony. There are at least 4 Hutterite Colonies by us. Hutterites are a communal religious group that started in Germany around 1500. Unlike the Amish they use all the modern farm equipment. The Colonies are scattered over the Northwest and Canada. They keep the Colonies small about 100 people. They do stay to themselves, the men wear mostly black and the women wear long dresses, they dress very modest. They speak German at home and the children don't learn English until they start school. The kids only go to the 8th grade because that is what the state requires. That is what we have been told. Well that is about all I know at this time but I am sure I will learn more as time goes by and I am sure if you want to know more you can look them up on the internet.
Love the Yellow!!!!!
Gorgeous!! I've never heard of the Hutterites. Sounds interesting!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like the fields of rapeseed we saw in Great Britain. The oil from this plant is canola oil. I think the fields are absolutely beautiful. Glad to see it growing in Montana.
